Peter Sandstrom

Peter SandstromPeter Sandstrom studied at Paier College of Art in New Haven, Connecticut.  He has returned to his easel after spending 25 years in the screen-printing industry.

Peter’s inspiration for his work stems from an ever questioning view of everyday life. Comments about his work often reference the viewers invitation to interpret the piece in their own way, the feeling captured while viewing and the portrayal of often overlooked details.

Peter grew up in Meriden, Connecticut and Cape Cod, Massachusetts and now resides in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, with his wife, Diane, and cat, Tom. He is a member of the Pittsburgh Society of Artists and the Monroeville Arts Council.

Inspired by such painters as Thomas Eakins, William Bouguereau and Maxfield Parrish, Peter strives to achieve honest realism in whatever medium best suits the subject. He works mostly in oils and occasionally in acrylic and graphite.

Through self study and interaction with other artists, he continues the ongoing process of artistic expression.

Recent honors include First Place – Oil/Acrylic in the 2009 Monroeville Art Council’s Annual Art Show for “Did You Get My Letter?” and Honorable Mention in the Pittsburgh Society of Artists 2009 Annual Members Show at the Borelli-Edwards Gallery in Pittsburgh, PA for “Blessing of the Fleet”.  Two works, “Steak ‘n Eggs” and “Anatomy Lesson” were accepted in the 2009 Seven Deadly Sins exhibition at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts.
